Batting at number three in New Zealand's pursuit of a 267-run target, Kane Williamson played a pivotal role in guiding his team with a composed innings. He reached the coveted century milestone off 203 deliveries, embellishing his innings with 11 boundaries and two sixes.
Currently ranked as the world's top Test batsman, Williamson's remarkable feat includes scoring seven centuries in his last seven Test matches. In the first Test of the series against South Africa in Bay Oval Mount Maunganui, the 33-year-old showcased his brilliance by hitting centuries in both innings (118 and 109), contributing significantly to New Zealand's emphatic 281-run victory over the Proteas.
By achieving his 32nd Test hundred in his 172nd innings, Williamson surpassed Australia's Steven Smith (174 innings) to claim the title of the fastest batsman to reach this milestone. Following closely behind are Ricky Ponting (176 innings) and Sachin Tendulkar (179 innings).
In addition to this record-breaking achievement, Williamson also equaled Pakistani batsman Younis Khan's record of scoring five centuries in the fourth innings of a Test match.
Moreover, Williamson's century in the ongoing match against South Africa marked his sixth hundred against the Proteas, putting him on par with the legendary Jacques Kallis for the most centuries in New Zealand-South Africa Test encounters.
